Seahawks WR Obomanu breaks clavicle (AP)

One hard fall by Ben Obomanu added to Seattle's depleted wide receiver corps. It may also land an unlikely spot on the roster for someone. Obomanu broke his clavicle early in Seattle's 23-16 preseason victory over the Oakland Raiders on Friday night. Obomanu was injured midway through the first quarter after making a 33-yard catch over the middle, landing hard on his shoulder.

Broncos turn back Saints 34-32 (AP)

No gutsy 2-point call this week. Just a gut-wrenching close call. Martin Gramatica's 43-yard field goal try with 1:55 remaining was wide right, and the Denver Broncos escaped with a 34-32 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. "It's nice to give up 32 points and still win the football game," Denver coach Mike Shanahan said.

Brewers avoid elimination, top Phils 4-1 in Game 3 (AP)

AP - J.J. Hardy and the Milwaukee Brewers did just enough to keep their postseason alive for another day. Back home at Miller Park, the Brewers got three hits from Hardy and a sharp outing from Dave Bush to beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 Saturday night and stave off elimination in the NL division series.

Webb reaches 20 wins as Arizona beats Cincy (AP)

AP - Brandon Webb tossed eight shutout innings to become the National League's first 20-game winner, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Cincinnati Reds 3-2 on Friday night to end a six-game losing streak.

Jackets sign C Umberger to 4-year deal (AP)

The Columbus Blue Jackets signed center R.J. Umberger to a four-year contract Monday. The Blue Jackets acquired Umberger and a draft pick from the Philadelphia Flyers on June 20, in exchange for two draft choices. In three years and 228 games in the NHL, he has 49 goals and 67 assists, all with Philadelphia.

Browns turn to Quinn to right season (AP)

Derek Anderson answered the final question, bowed his head and stared blankly at the floor. He then walked slowly toward a door at the far end of Cleveland's locker room, pausing to exchange a fist bump with linebacker and fellow team captain Andra Davis on his way out. A memoir by Serena Williams will be released in 2009 by Grand Central Publishing, which beat out a handful of other publishers bidding for the life story of the No. 1 ranked women's tennis player. "Serena Williams is one of the world's most remarkable athletes," Grand Central editor Karen Kosztolnyik said Tuesday in a statement.

Tursunov wins Open de Moselle title (AP)

Dmitry Tursunov of Russia won the Open de Moselle by beating Paul-Henri Mathieu 7-6 (6), 1-6, 6-4 Sunday in the final. Tursunov rallied after winning just one game in the second set. "In the second set he had a lot of chances to attack my second serve, and he was successful in doing that," the fifth-seeded Tursunov said.

Imprisoned quarterback Michael Vick filed for bankruptcy protection while serving time for federal dogfighting charges, saying he owes between $10 million and $50 million to creditors. Vick filed Chapter 11 papers in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Newport News on Monday. The seven largest creditors listed in the court papers are owed a total of about $12.8 million.

Ivanovic, Zvonareva make Linz quarters (AP)

Top-seeded Ana Ivanovic and No. 2 Vera Zvonareva eased into the Generali Ladies quarterfinals with straight-sets victories on Thursday.
