Russian league accuses NHL of poaching (AP)

A newly formed Russian hockey league accused the NHL of poaching two of its players when the Los Angeles Kings agreed to terms with two draft prospects last week. As a result, the Continental Hockey League (KHL), announced Thursday that it was no longer obligated to abide by a moratorium reached in July, when the leagues agreed against signing players that were under contract.

Bears sign RB Kevin Jones to 1-year deal (AP)

The Chicago Bears signed running back Kevin Jones to a one-year deal on Tuesday. During four years with Detroit, Jones rushed for 3,067 yards and 24 touchdowns on 761 carries. Jones, who played for Virginia Tech, was drafted by Detroit in 2004. Terms of Jones' deal were not disclosed. Last season, Jones rushed for 581 yards and a career-high eight touchdowns on 153 carries.

McCabe lifts Panthers over Oilers in SO (AP)

Bryan McCabe scored the shootout winner and the Florida Panthers beat the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 in a pre-season game Wednesday night.
